Horse and Pony Protection Association

of Newfoundland and Labrador

The Horse and Pony Protection Association of Newfoundland and Labrador Inc, (HAPPA-NL for short), is a registered charitable foundation with the main focus of providing care for unwanted, neglected, abused or injured horses and ponies.  HAPPA-NL also operates the only equine sanctuary in Newfoundland and Labrador at Hopeall, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland.

Several national organizations have been involved in operating the Hopeall Sanctuary, most significantly the Canadian Farm Animal Care Trust (CANFACT), which has provided key financial support and direction and has ensured the continuing existence and operation of the sanctuary.  CANFACT is a charity looking after all farm animals which is based in Ontario and supports farm animal welfare throughout Canada.

 

HAPPA-NL Mission Statement:

To promote and encourage the welfare of all equines and to protect equines against abuse, cruelty and neglect.

To provide sanctuary, shelter and care for any equine which has been neglected, abused or abandoned and to make every effort to restore these equines to good health and if possible, to obtain good, caring, permanent homes for these animals.
