Miracle Cloud

On February 15, 2004, Patsy, a 25 year old white Newfoundland Pony gave birth to a bouncing baby boy, a stud colt. Unfortunately, Patsy passed away 24 days later.

We started to feed the foal 2% milk with Pectin on March 10 and he took to the milk just fine.  The next day we tried something that was iffy.

We put the foal in the field with 35-year-old Cloudy Girl, also a Newfoundland Pony, which had showed a lot of interest in the foal.  Well, a miracle happened, the mare adopted the new foal and looked after him like he was her own.

This gave him a new mom who kept him warm, kept him company, protected him and taught him to stay out of trouble, just like any mom would. Before long the foal even suckled off the old mare and she produced the milk the foal needed.

For obvious reasons we called him Miracle Cloud! He  quickly became a frisky youngster, too lively for some of his older companions.   We have since found a permanent loving home for him.  From recent reports, he is doing quite well and is healthy and content.
